Oviparous Animals

Egg Laying Animals

This week we talked about oviparous animals.  These are animals who lay eggs.  We learned a lot about Chickens since they are the ones who we think of first.  But we read a fun book called

Chickens Aren't The only Ones!

In Writing we are talking about Adding More.  Next week we will be focusing in pairs how to tell more that our readers want to hear about.  We keep in mind all the time that we aren't just writing for ourselves but for other people as well.

In Math we are still focusing on Addition. Next week we will be starting to look at subtraction.  We will start with subtraction number stories first before we try and work with number sentences.

Sight Words!

Rocking our Reading

I just finished our third round of assessments for report cards.  You should all be very proud of the hard work that has been happening both in school and at home.  Our next big push is our sight words.  They are the most important part of reading and writing!  I have some great videos that we have been using in class.

I have also attached the words again.

Down on the Farm

This past week we learned about lots of different farm animals.

The students worked hard on writing All About Reports on the Pigs, Sheep, Cows and Farmers. First they worked on tree maps and recorded what the animals had and what they can do.  Then they were able to use this tree map to transfer their thoughts into sentences.

We also read lots of books about the animals.  We compared what we saw in Non-fiction books to what happened in Fictional books about the same animals.  We laughed a lot with Duck from Click Clack Moo!  The whole series is a lot of fun!

In Math we have been working on addition.  The students have been doing great with knowing different ways to make a number.  Now we are going to be looking at number sentences.  These are new to the kids so they may find this to be a struggle.  Hopefully the more we see them the more confident we will feel with them.
